Can a NF/NL Fairlane (High Series) Cluster go into a EL Fairmont ... :?:
How much work is it to get the Vehicle Outline, with Door Ajar, Boot, and Fuel Flap Status Indicators (On LCD) Working ... :?:
Thats one of the main things i miss from my EA Fairmont Ghia
Also Automatic Transmission Gear Position Indicator
The Park Lamp Bulb Out Warning (On LCD)
And Brake Lamp Bulb Out Warning (On LCD) will come in handy

hey mate, the dash conversion is bit of an effort

you will need to follow the instructions on here very well, need to get either the orig second hand sensor for the fuel flap and run a cable back to the cluster, including all the doors as well cables run.

you will have to cut and chop the cluster plugs as their different too

bit of an effort

everything else will automatically come up on the dash as far as i know

if you get hold of the entire fairlane loom it would be much easier, like fuz said - big effort otherwise!

Well it's an interesting idea. Just what else did the NL cluster have over the EL ghia cluster? Was it more than just idiot lights? Were the dials and readouts physically different on the cluster? Does anyone have pictures of the NL cluster?

Vehicle Outline with Door Ajar
Boot and Fuel Flap Status Indicators
Automatic Transmission Gear Position Indicator

Different Graphics and different needles...
Looks classy, but its a lot of work to change it.
Matti (Xyphoid) did it, but he's the only one as far as I know. and he never got the extra bits working as far as I know.

Yeah, I didnt wire up the Brake and Park Lamp Bulb out warnings, but everything else is working.

Modifying your door switches requires adding a relay, diodes and 2 resistors per door to get them working with the interior light, as well as the Fairlane cluster.

Also, you will need more than the fairlane dash wiring loom for plug and play.
The Fairlane wiring loom will give you everything, except the door / fuel / boot ajar warning, and the Bulb out warnings, as you will also need the fairlane looms going to the doors, as well as going in to the doors, and the loom going to the boot.
You will also need the fuel flap open sensor and magnet.
Having the Fairlane loom wont really save you much time, considering you will need to take the WHOLE Crashpad out, to swap the loom, then you will need to do a climate control conversion, as well as a High Series BEM conversion, and then butcher the loom to get the door open / bulb out warnings to work.

Another issue I have found is the trip computer backlight does not work when the lights are on, this appears to be an issue coming from the low series cluster. I have modified my TC with a resistor to force the light on when the Headlights are on. An advantage is that the clock is now visible without the ignition on just by turning the parkers on. I am currently testing a simple circuit to allow the door ajar wiring to work.

Matti,
Do the Brake warning, it is easy and works well.

Cheers
TW.
