EF FUTURA HEADLIGHT. can you replace the lights without having to take the front hugger off??? I had a go last weekend and got to the point where it looked like i would have to remove the hugger to get the lights off the car . i HAD THE LIGHTS UNBOLTED AND LOOSE BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE HUGGER HAS TO COME OFF. It looked like the inner gaurd would have to be remove to get the the hugger bolts. Was i missing something or did ford get stupid and make it harder than neccesary. god an xy needed a screwdriver and five screws to be removed. AHHH the god old days when cars had less crap on them!!

haha yeah sadly for some reason I believe you do.
you can just squeeze it out if you have a Fairmont, because of the grill in the center. But being a futura, from what i can gather there no other way, other than as the book says. Maybe you can just undo one of the guards and half the bumper, and get it loose enough to lever out. Yeah definitely not one of there brighter thought patterns.

Yes you can remove/replace EF GLi/Futura Headlights without removing the bumper.
You have to maneuver the lights and bend the bumper a little. EL I think you have to lower the bumper as the grill gets in the way. Either way, Its advisable to loosen the bolts and drop the bumper a little, I'm sure stretching the plastics doesn't treat the paintwork too well!

As Krytox said, you can do it without dropping the bumper. I've done it on an EF and EL, just need to do it slowly and be reasonably gentle or else you will crack paint.

Yeah, the Fairmonts are good for getting the headlights. Shame about the GLIs.
Here's my "new" one. New looking one I got off an EL Fairmont wreck for $100, bloody steeeal.

Undo the bumper supports in the middle between the lights (ef's only - where the grill is). I did that and its much easier to bend the bumper/grill out the way.
