Please put my mind at ease.
I took off hard in my el fairmont ghia and didn't upshift into 2nd quick enough. The thing hit 6000rpm. The car is in A1 condition but i'm worried i might have damaged something. Are the engine and gearbox strong enough to handle this terrible, terrible abuse??

relax man, it has a limiter to prevent it from going any higher, for short amounts of time, high rpm is fairly harmless on a healthy engine. If it puts yous mind at rest, my car sees 6,000 2-3 times a week and the engine is good as new.

...and leave it in 'D'...you have lost most torque by the time you hit 6000rpm anyway

im not being a smart a** but the ef/el series are rev limited to 5700 rpm
i gues it could reach 6000 in neutral bouncing on the limiter but not under load lol |

momentum will carry the rev limiter past the 57 limiter, or if your my mates ef with a cam and headwork - STD computer - you'll go off the tacho.

Might be the tranny slipping into the next gear, mine did it when my tranny was stuffing up and it was changing at like 5900ish, got a new AU S5 solinoid and it changes at about 5400 now and thats WOT.

my rev limiter is 6300rpm and my motor loves it
