hey all my car just stopped today and tryed to restart but just cranks but wont fire due to prosess of elimination i have worked out its something 2 wid the dizzy. i have been told 2 change the cap and rotor button. just wonder how much work is involved. and help on the subject would be appreciated. i hav an ed futura

There's no tech doc that I know of as the procedure is covered in all the workshop manuals.
I find it easier to get at if I remove the throttle body and airbox snorkle but someone with smaller hands may not have to remove the throttle body. The rotor is easy once the cap is off and the cap itself is fiddly but straight forward, just make sure you mark and put back the leads in the right order. Cheers, Paul

if its not getting any spark?
more than likely its the tfi module on the side of the dizzy as its a common failing point on the e series distributors.. |

ive changed the dizzy cap and rotor button and it still wont start the raa told me its probably the module on the bottom of the dizzy. but he also said it could be the coil or crank angle sensor. he managed to narrow it down to those three but im just gonna take it to a mechanic as im not very mechanically minded. ill keep you posted on how i get on.

yea it sounds like the module on the dizzy! or maybe coil?
oh and there is no crank angle sensor on ed.. models with the distributor dont have crank angle sensor only ef and au as they have coil pack ignition.. |

Hey mate, had the same problem, i was fixing it today actually
Well, tried, im having the same problem, no spark, replaced the cap, rotor button, leads and coil. Still no spark, what i found is that the fuses for the 'ENG' and 'HEGO' were fried, replaced them, turned the ignition and they blew again 
I think my problem might be the ecu, a short somewhere or perhaps the tfi module on the side of the dizzy, but im no mechanic, once i find out more tomorrow i will let you know if it helps

the tfi on the side of the dizzy i went and spoke 2 a mechanic 2day and they said i should change the whole dizzy which includes tfi module and the coil so looks like im up 4 abit of cash he said i could change the module but the dizzy is probably gone if the module has so id try that |

Don't go back to that mechanic if he told you the dizzy is probably gone as well. The problem with the TFI modules is heat transfer, the module is mounted to the dizzy with heatsink compound, if not enough was used during install or if it has dried out the TFI will overheat and fail. When installing a new TFI be sure to clean both surfaces and use heatsink compound.

not always - in my case the bushes that the dissy turns on were worn out. reco'd dizzy unit was required - and it wasn't that expensive - round 150 tops for parts.
