i see a few brake boosters for sale off the xr6s, i am wondering if they would be suitable as a cheap brake upgrade for the EA. Not sure how it would all fit or if the ECU would run it but advice appreciated.

or is it better going for the slotted rotors on a bang for buck basis.

a mate put an integra type r brake booster into his b18c civic (engine conversion) and it worked a treat on his brakes. Hoping to do the same to the falcon.

I don't think the XR6's got a different brake booster. Also there wern't any EA XR's.

The ED XR booster WILL bolt into your EA, i did this some years ago, It was a good upgrade, and did improve the breaking quite a bit..

well thanks for that i will be on the lookout for one.

is it just a matter of unbolt/rebolt?

and being an EA it doesn't have ABS (dunno if that matter for a booster), so which is the go - EB and ED XR6 will fit? what about the EF/EL ones.

Cheers for the advice

they are just a unbolt rebolt. the master cylinders are the same so you don't need to change that over.

EB/ED XR6/XR8 boosters are all the same.. ABS no applicable

fairly sure the EF/EL boosters wont fitt but dont quote me as ive never tryed it..

I take it the dual diaghram reduces pedal effort?

From memory my manual says the dual diaghram is 230mm diameter and the single is 250mm.

One of my EBII's has ABS and the pedal effort seemed less, but the booster housing is the same diameter as my other EBII. Is it possible the master cylinder is a different diameter?

No

Its to do with the internals of the booster.

Brad

Are you saying the booster fitted to ABS GLi models gives lower pedal effort than non-ABS GLi's?

[My apologies if this isn't relevant to the threadstarter. I'm keen to know for myself.]

No i was refering to the master cyl being different.

I have noticed that my eb xr8's brakes feel funny compared to my xr6. xr8 has abs. Xr6 non abs ed.

I hate my abs it s**t me to tears.

The booster for xr models would feel a little better but i have not used them on gli's.

My non-abs GLi has three tubes exiting the master cylinder, whereas the abs version has two?

The difference i noticed was the pedal being softer on the abs version, particularly when reversing, where it almost went to the floor and was scary.

The first time i experienced abs was when i tried to stop a brand new Range Rover on a dirt test track, whereupon the pedal battered my foot for little reduction in speed. So i literally stood on the brake and it improved a bit. Pity an old lady.

So the xr has the twin booster but the abs gli does not?
