i have a prob with my ef. when i break i get a very bad grinding noise from my front left caliper and when the car is in motion (no breaks) i also get a very quiet grinding noise. i took the wheel off today to try and find the prob and when i tried to turn the rotors it was very had to do by hand as if the caliper is slightly griping the break disc (which could be what is making the grinding noise when the breaks are not pressed). also what ever the grinding noise is it is destroying the break discs and is leaving metal shaving all over the springs, shocks and inside and out side of my rims.
(just for ya info the break pads are very low but i dont see JUST that causing the prob) Any ideas what my prob is? Cheers. |

what are your break pads like, I had the same thing happen. It was the backing plate of the pads grinding the edge of the disc that is not worn down.
(have a look at the 'lip' at the edge of the disc, where the pad doesnt touch and see if that is higher then the meat of the pad...' |

yeh, how close did you look at the pads. check its not actually metal on metal. Especially the inside pad.

s**t mate could be pads and/or wheel bearings
but sounds like a pad is worn right down if the caliper is not returning the pad properly (sounds this way if the disc is hard to turn by hand you will need to over haul the caliper and re grease the slides do both sides at the same time!

had a look today. the inside pad was past metal on metal
 changed em today. the reason the left pads got so bad one of the slide pin on the caliper is stick and keeps the back part of the pad pressed on the disc.
did a bit of over kill with WD40 made it slip enough that u could push it back to get caliper back on but with i stuck the bolt in went right back to the same position. so i need to grease it up or get a new one. and i know ya need to do both pads at the same time, but ran out of light and time. so only did the left but the ones on the right still have 90% of the pad. took to a test drive all works like it should but will still change the right hand side after work tomorrow. wd40 will dry out u will need to get some copper grease in there

careful if it was metal on metal - good chance the inside of the rotor will be f**k from grinding and will be like sandpaper. new pads wont last long at all

yeah only got a $30 set from autobarn for that reason. gunna replace rotors then get top shelf break pads.
