Ok so like im a poor uni student, and because of this, any mods i undertake atm are relatively cheap. This is the reason ive started on my interior. So far the only substantial mods is the sound system and its only half done (replaced front speakers and parcel shelf speakers with 5 by 7 kickers, Cadience amp, need to buy a new head unit, need to buy a sub). Ive also started painting the dash but am only half way through. (btw im aware its bright, the picture makes it look brighter than what it is, but i like the colour so yeh...)

Painted dash
<a href="http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn116/denim54321/?action=view¤t=DSC00185.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn116/denim54321/DSC00185.jpg" border="0" alt="Semi-Painted Dash AUII"></a>

The problem i have run into now is i cant work out how to get the rest of the bits off from the dash to paint them. How do i remove:
The Strip above the passenger airbag?
The surronding of the side A/C vents?
The surronding of the headlights knob?

Any other ideas for bits to paint without making it overpowering, im thinking of painting the speaker covers.

How hard is it to remove and modify the Instrument Cluster?

While im at it any other ideas for relatively cheap interior mods? Im planning on getting some nice looking pedals, and getting a chrome gear shift surronding, but thats all i could think of so far.

I dont mean to sound harsh but that looks bodge as at the moment. If you want to make it look a bit less in your face try a blue or something not so bright. You also need to look at painting the ashtray as it now looks out of place. You would be better off leaving the parts you want to get off on and masking them so as not to get paint everywhere than starting to dissasemble things. All the things you have can be removed but if you arnt experienced it could be more trouble than its worth. Good luck with it all :D

Yeh the colour is a bit of an acquired taste, but i think if i colour match a few other things it wont be too bad, if it doesnt i have been considering taking it to a slightly darker shade of green.

Do the other bits have clips or are they screwed in? i tried for a little while today getting them off but i didnt want to damage them.
If i did do the masking paper trick id cover everything wouldnt i, like masking tape and news paper for the dash, and then like a sheet for the carpet and chairs

Im going for an 'out there' look with the interior and i plan to stick with some shade of green. The only problem with green is that it is like one of the least common colours on cars and to find interior bits with green detailing on them is very hard. thanks for ur feedback.

No, someone can call it as they see it. Taste - you have none.

Mate as harsh as a couple of the posts were, they may have a point on the choice of your colour... I think if the exterior was that colour, fair enough, but considering that the centre fascia is the only piece done in what looks like fluro green, its definately an "acquired" taste and won't be well received. At the end of the day its your choice and you gotta be happy with it.

As for the pieces being removed, usually a flat head screw driver and some CAREFUL prying at the edges lifts them.... Usually they will be held in place by an insert clip (commonly known to panel beaters as a dog's di.ck) and will just pop out. For your head light knob (no pun intended) it should be the same principal but you will have a wire to disconnect.

Instrument cluster should be the easiest really. There should be 2 or 3 screws at the top. Undo them, drop the steering wheel as low as it will go and it should slide out. pop off all the electrics (remembering where they go - digital camera piccy helps HEAPS with this) and the whole thing should come out. Pop out the front glass (actually plastic) and you can attack the internals...

I would probably suggest planning exactly what you want painted, write it down, take some piccys of those pieces or the interior in general, and have a play on phot shop first. Then when you are 100% sure of colours and pieces, wait till you have enough paint, and the time obviously, and do it all in one session. It will look alot better ALL done rather than bits a pieces at a time.

One other suggestion, if you do wanna keep the fluro green, paint the contrasting pieces gloss black, it will set it off ALOT better than the grey of the standard trim.

Hope this helps.

If he wants to paint it f**k yellow let him paint it f**k yellow.

At least he isnt putting neons or pink fluffy seat covers on..... Unless you are ha ha

My tip would be to go and get the dash pieces from a wreckers and paint them then put on rather than pulling yours apart

Hey guys thanks for the feedback, i think once its all painted it will look alot better.
The colour is hard to disguinish properly in the picture, its not fluro, nor is it yellow, its green yellow

When i get some more money ill go buy the other bits from the wreckers, The fascia ive already painted was one from a wreckers. Can anyone suggest a good wreckers on the goldcoast, or more specifically near mudgeeraba?

Is there a template for the AU's Instrument cluster on the forum, i found plenty before but none were for AU's?

Ill try the black, see how it looks. I plan to colour match the majority of the interior. the reason i didnt paint it the same colour as the exterior is that mine is silver, and silver is just not my thing.

Lots of people like neons, though lots are teenagers, but they look really good when presented well.
