my fairmont ghia has a broken gear shift button. its the chrome 1. this is the 3rd time. how can i fix it so it dont broke again?

you can't, put in a grey standard one and you'll be right. the chroming process for the plastic weakens it and eventually brakes.

Are you telling me you have replaced it with new ones each time? 
If not how did you fix it to last a bit longer? I had to dish 300 hard'earned ones for a new item!
