Hi guys, so my engine has a cracked head, stuffed bearings on the bottom end and a water pump that's a few hundred k's away from dying.
My cousin said it''s cheaper to throw a second hand motor in the car and seeing as he's the mechanic i trust him. What i wanted to know is would it be worthwhile throwing a au engine in there more to the point the xr6 engine as i saw it's 172kw according to redbook and it's apparently a smoother engine? My ef is on gas atm would there need to be any major modifications to get the au engine in the car and running on gas? Hope that all makes sense, Cheers in advance for your advice. Pat

pretty straight forward - search the forums for more information.
AU a better engine than an EF donk. The 172kw motor is i think the VCT version it can be put in an EF as some members have done but needs more work to get working. |

just to let you know that the k frame needs to be cut and welded or the au sump needs to be modified to fit it into the ef...

Guys just wondering i've been looking on ebay and found two au vct engines
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FALCON-AU-XR6-VC ... dZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-FALCON-AU-T ... dZViewItem One says no "accesseries" whilst the other lists COMES COMPLETE WITH WATER PUMP ,INLET AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS, ECU AND WIRING LOOMS ECT , THERE IS NO ALTERNATOR OR POWER STEERING PUMP WITH THIS ENGINE. I know i need the water pump seeing as mine is on the way out but how much else of that would i need? Sorry for the noob question but better to ask than not know i figure

I think there are a few threads around detailing the problems associated with fitting the VCT engine and making it work properly.
A bit more research may lead you to go for a non VCT engine. VCT aside, you will not get the full output of any Tickford engine until you add a Tickford [XR6 or Ghia] ECU and fuel pressure regulator at the minimum. The E-Bay engine in WA could at least double in price by the time you get it to Sydney. The other is way overpriced IMO and transport from Melbourne would add to that. Check the yellow pages, there are a couple of wreckers out Narellan way that deal in Ford engines and give warranty. Try and get an engine from a Ghia, the XR6 runs a higher risk of having been driven hard by comparison. Or settle for an EL Ghia engine and make up the power by developing it. Cheers, Mac
