Hi guys,

Just got a new set of BF XR8 18" rims for my car. I got them from ebay 2nd hand with the tyres already fitted. Just wondering if i would need a wheel alignment after i fit them to the car?

Brett.

er.. if you just got wheels, and your alignment was ok before fitting, then it will be ok after.

What you might want is a wheel balance? - again, you'll know as soon as you drive the car. Shaking in the wheels is balance.

yep its recommended when going up in wheel size like from 15" to 17" rim, you should get a wheel alignent done.

Dunno why though?

Regarding camber, a wider, lower profile tyre is more sensitive to camber. A stocker, towards the other end of the spectrum, doesn't care so much.

You want the tyre tread to be flat on the road surface as much as possible. If you are racing, you run more camber due to the higher cornering loads rolling the tyre more. If you are road driving you mostly generate less cornering loads, meaning the tyre rolls less, and therefore less camber is used.

Too much camber on a wide low profile tyre generates less cornering force and wears unevenly and quicker.

Hey, yeah i would get a wheel alignment. But take it from me, i live in adelaide don't go to any tyre place like bridgestone or bob jane, places like that cause they never do it properly. every time i got it done by them it always went out.

Depending on where you live go to Pedders or go where i went SA Suspension centre. There is one at Pooraka and one at Lonsdale. They are the best and they are the same price as the tyre places.

cheers
