how hard is it to change the top and bottom ball joints in a ef they look like there pressed in they dont look easy to do

I took my old stub axles with balljoints still fitted down to fulcrum and got exchange units with new balljoints upper/lower fitted to the stub axles for $230 for the pair..Much easier I reckon..

they are pressed in
u can pull the wishbones off and take it to a shop to get them pressed out

have fun mate,when i done mine the 20t press was twisting around like a mofo creaking and groaning like it was going to snap,then balljoint just went pop!!!

yeh not really something you can do at home (unless you have the right tools) i just unbolt the stub axles and take em to pedders to have the balljoint removed and new ones fitted. $35 not incl cost of new balljoints

I've popped a few ball joints in my time, either using a hammer in the right way, a puller, or wedges. Jacks can be handy too. I haven't done a ford thought. Unless ford use a very fine taper i can't see why they can't be done at home. Don't be surprised if your mechanic just clamps the arm on some supports to give the ball joint space to go and whack! - or likewise uses a vice. Or a puller. Plenty of people would know an easy way(s) for them, surely.
Or are the ball joints also pressed into the uprights? I note there is a circlip there.

they can be smaked out with a hammer, just soak them in a bit of WD40 or penatrene ( make sure to wipe the lube off once they are out) then put i rest the wishbone on a open vise ( vise jaws either side of the balljoint them a few good wacks and it should POP out..... now i have a shpo press much easier,,,..... but the ole' hammer works wonders

thats how I did mine, except I used a sledge hammer and 2 other people 
Didn't damage the ball joint at all, just took the rubber boot off and rapped some electrical tape around it to get the bit of piping around the ball joint.

$30 from selby's to swap them over all 4 (not including ball joints)
got one of the smaller ones out myself and still think it was the best $30 i spent that week lol

i had a small press plus acess to various presses hydraulic and manual, their just an awkward thing to press in and out unless your set up for it.
you've done the expensive work yourself, thats the plan, now pay someone to do the a**hole work as theres bare minimum labour time involved
most of the expense of working on a car is the labour if your doing all of that yourself your saving money anyway. if your not set up to do a certain job it's cheaper for someone else to do it who is set up. i replaced every bush, ball joint, bearing, tie rod end & rubber boot underneath my falc front to back & the only costs i incurred were $30 of labour for that one job (2 knuckles),$45 for a full wheel allignment + parts. not bad i think.

Generally speaking, if you think you need tools to do a job, get them. Tools save money, often quickly, a good investment.
