ive just bought a set ,''front & rear'' BOGE shocks for my ef.
around $350 all up.standard .you can get shortened 1s too.same $? havent fitted them yet . they have a lifetime warranty . http://www.shockreco.com.au/boge.htm

Sell the xr and buy a fairlane. Or, to get the most comfortable ride possible with h/d lowered coils (and uprated swaybars?), you need no more compression damping than is necessary, just the right amount of rebound damping to suit the coils and swaybars, and a quality shock. When you want to achieve something somewhat against the odds, it's a bit more difficult to achieve, of course, and may involve more compromise, or money, or research, or two of these, or all three. Koni red shocks would be a good choice here because they have a normal level of compression damping, and the rebound damping can be adjusted up to suit your coils. Being a quality shock gives you a better chance of achieving your more difficult aim. Bilstein yellows are also good. Other than that you either take pot luck or somehow find out the characteristics of any given shock. A potential problem is a standard shock like a standard monroe possibly won't have enough rebound damping, yet a gt gas will be too firm in compression, and maybe even extension as well.

For a comfortable ride go the koni reds, and try them adjusted up half a turn to suit the h/d coils. If you don't have enough rebound damping there will be an uncomfortable upwards acceleration as the h/d coils expand. And if you have too much rebound damping there will be uncomfortable downwards accelerations. The Koni sports (yellow) have a firmer footvalve (compression damping) which comes at a slight cost to comfort. They also have firmer rebound at the lowest setting, but this might be just right, you may not want it any lower than that anyway.
