Anyone know if the flywheel on a BA T5 is the same as earlier Falcons with the T5? Or if they'll fit on to the SOHC donks?

Best bet is to ring ford and ask to speak a workshop manager or service manager they should either basically tell you to rack off politely or explain the differences or just flat out same Yes or No

already done the leg work for ya, found out for myself to, ED to AU are identical, same part number, BA onwards are different I don't know what differs about them, if its only the part number or a complete new design, but ford spares was 100% certain it could not be retrofitted without some serious effort, I would also like to know the differences certainly price is one though.. I can't see them being massivly different but. why redesign the wheel so to speak.

I'd say is the same item and just the part number superseeds.. like AU tranny wil bolt upto BA motor. but really what advantages does this acheive....?? (other then running a BA gearbox on a PreBA motor.)

all I know is that the service guys said it would not fit, and recommended the AU one even though it was the cheaper of the 2 items, if ford takes that route its a pretty good bet that is will not. unlikethem to miss an opportunity for an upsell.

Ford spares and the local head mechanic were also certain that I was made that I wanted a second set of shims to install a camshaft (wade cam) when I was ordering them, so I don't take everything they say as gosepel.

Guess well have to wait and see - wonder if FTG oor someone has had a chance to compare.

Dunno about the 6's, but the 8's have an eight bolt crank.

I have a BA XR6T flywheel hanging of the back of my EL 4.0Ltr it bolts straight up! I cannot see the point in doing it unless you plan on putting a transmission behind it to suit. I am putting a heavily modified XR6T T5 behind my 4.0Ltr and if I knew it was going to take this much effort I wouldn't have!

Not looking on using the BA T5 flywheel - my theory is that if the BA T5 flywheel is the same as earlier model (i.e. fits/backwards compatible), then the T56 flywheel will also fit - meaning that's 1 less drama to be encountered with the T56 conversion.
Now all that's left is sorting out the hydraulic clutch, but there's a few fellas who are already running BA hyrdaulic clutch setups in there E-series from what I'm told, so that shouldn't be a big drama.

I will be interested in keeping informed of your progress.

You will most likely encounter the following issues (as I have with my conversion)

* Shifter location on box is further back by 3"ish
* No speedo drive gear - newer models use ABS sensors

At this stage I am looking into the interchangeability of output shafts between earlier and later models to over come the speedo issue and extra length in extension housing.

Let me know how you go.

BA utes without ABS (or is it traction control) get a extension housing with the speedo sensor.

The output shaft on the BA T5 has the slot in it for speedo gear and if its the same as the Auto its plastic and should be cheapish. The casting has the start of the hole so you could easily drill it out to take the sender.
