Hi guys,
As the AU11 requires Premium Unleaded 95 ron and above. Is it OK to use the E10 Premium Unleaded? Don't want to use it if it's not good for my 8

E10 fuel is regular unleaded with 10% ethanol i think (91 RON)
Im sure that Ford recommends a minimum of 95 ron for the XR8's. Correct me if im wrong.

Not worth it for the tiny saving. 95 or above as a minimum without ethanol

and you gotta bear in mind that 10% ethanol in 95 octane leans the tune out 3%.....so if your running a custom tune with tight A/F ratios you could get into some detonation problems... especially turbos
i think its most of the reason you hear people commenting how well there cars go on ethanol mix , as the factory tune is real rich and with the leaning out it gets them into the better power making A/F ratio i experimented at the drags by adding 10% to some 98 ...but it had very little affect ... if any at all? could have just been the nut loose behind the wheel |

Couple of tanks once in a while wont hurt. Ethanol has corrosive properties and will clean your injectors. just ask holden about its corrosive properties, they had to change the fuel lines in cars exported to countries using high levels of ethanol.
I have used it in my 5.6 engine and it didn't ping any worse than using the c#ap 95 they are dishing out lately but I do use 0.5 L/100km more ethanol when its in there which defeats the purpose. Dont know if its wide spread or not but in my erae there has been some pretty ordinary fuel lately even the occassional 98 that pings its a#se off with the next tanks being ok. P.S. I never purchase from independents. |

Ethonol should help detonation as it burns slower. It has less energy so you need more..
From memory stoic is 9:1 while pertrol is 14.7:1... Gasoline is 14.7:1 methanol is 6.5:1 ethanol is 9:1 Thats where the fuel consumption come's in.. Much the same as LPG... Infact with turbo engines it can be safer ?? Trouble ? I think Ethonol gets blamed for bad fuel.. It burns better when under load, so in some cases on light cruse, it could burn too slow.. It needs cylinder pressure to make it burn better... Due to being slower burning.. It pushes piston for longer down the bore, compared to petrol based fuels..As with Methonol [another alcohol] it likes advanced timing, but this would be detrimental when you fill with 98... If your tuneing with Wideband? With stand alone ECU.. Its safer to tune to .85 lamda no matter what fuel...

interesting ...there doesnt seam to be a lot of info about ethanol fuels that i could find ..., the local fuel terminal manager was telling me about the leaning out

wouldn't bother with that e10 s**t.. that is what it is....(until they improve and refine the production of it)
with e10 you use alot more fuel then normal fuel... if you are worried abou 91 ron 95 ron 98 ron 100 ron fuels and need to run the U on preminum just use normal unleade and chuck some octane booster in to it..

Not a V8, but I have no problems with it, at the end of the day, If you don't maintain your car, filters and other stuff, then you 'could' have issues.
its burns well, its fuel, in fact i can only assume I get better results with it. however I cap myself to 1 tank to around 10, and honestly, I haven't used it in over a year due to 'lack of suppliers'

you will get less kay's on e10 than you will on regular, RACQ did a test on this, plus i got around 30km less out of a tank when i used it.
likewise in the long term useage is bad on most cars (dont know about newer ones) as it isn't good for fuel lines/components designed to work with regular fuel
