Hey all. New to the site, slightly new to fords in that i've not taken mine apart before.

I'm setting up some bits and pieces to buy to re-vamp a s**t EF. the plan is to get some low king springs, and some monroe struts.

not that it matters but i can get front and back springs, and front and back struts for 500 all up. i intend to do this, but i've spoken with the mech at work and he reckons monroe don't last.

i've had a look at ARG KYB adjustables, and they look fkn spiffy but i've not a clue on price, performance, or whatever.

not sure about springs either. i want to lower the car about 3" all round, but i don't know what i'd need for that.

could anybody please advise me on what i should go for to achieve a low, stable ride height?

i can sort out the sourcing myself, but i dont' know what'd be ideal for my falcon is all.

I'd got superlows for that much drop, lows are about XR height.
With SL's you need to get shortened shocks. I believe pedders makes some good ones that wont bust the budget.

I'm pretty sure its a tried and tested combo as well.

try and get springs second hand, then get new shockers to suit

3in drop is around ultralow height...looks good buy highly impracticle

i got superlows for the rear ($50 second hand) and boge shockers to suit ($48 each at trade price, around $100 each usually), then xr6 springs and struts for the front ($70 second hand)

nah second hand is a nono for me when it comes to this.

I live in Northam.. practicality doesn't really matter so long as i've got enough to get up the kerb at work which is a shattering 5 inches high.

3" isn't that low... considering how high it is at the moment especially.

i'd be happy with 3"

i've tracked down some things. gonna get quotes tomorrow from kyb and king springs.

thanks though guys :)

Well superlows sits with the front tire just our of the guard, and the rear just tucked on mine and thats 15"s. I have std shocks, but if you get shortened shocks it'll drop it as well, but only slightly.

3" lowered is a lot, and possibly if not probably illegal, just to let you know. I question whether any manufacturer would offer this off the shelf.

Normal low is around 1" to 1.5"
Super low should be around 2"
Ultra low . . .

On the question of shocks, i have sold and owned monroe's and think they are generally okay. I would consider them if on a budget. Regarding the falcon specifically, i inherited a pair of GTgas on the front and the original monroes on the rear. My limited observations so far are as follows:

Front GTgas:
- transmit small bumps at low to medium vehicle speeds reducing comfort and stability
- keep the wheels on the ground even over corrugations
- give good body control, i.e. reduced body roll, floating and pitching, haven't made a decision about bottoming yet

Rear O.E. monroes:
- after 222k and 16 years there is no sign of leakage or damage
- they are softer due to internal wear, but still generally work okay
- the softness allows the wheels to hop off the road occasionally over corrugations, which reduces stability and safety
- the softness also allows the springs to create slightly uncomfortable vertical accelerations
- otherwise a nice comfy ride
