Well, it seems I have some issues with my EFII Fairmont (on dual fuel), and I am starting to think if its worth upgrading it to a AU 6. There is a wrecker in adelaide that will do the conversion for $1,250 drive in drive out (with a motor thats done less than 100,000km), and well my car doesn't seem to have the *oomph* it used to have with the previous owner (a mate of mine). the car has been stolen recovered twice, and my mate said it never felt the same power wise the second time, and I know I have issues when I cant keepup with a ED Futura.
is it worth ketting a dyno run and seeing what sort of power mine is making, or just bite the bullet and opt down the AU motor path. I have read they both make the same KW at the motor (the EF and AU motor). or should I just rebuild mine even pending on the problems mine has, keeping in mind my motor has 282,000kms behind it. |

Oh, and I was also reading how AU motors have sequential EFI at low rpm, now the thing is I was told when installing the AU motor in a EF, they still use the EF BBM, and EF ECU, so will it still have sequential efi at low revs or not?
thx guys |

The au motor will be smoother, though if u rebuild yours with good parts (keeping in mind it will exceed the cost of the au motor transplant) it will be just as good. You also have heaps more options with after market cams with the ef head.

Pending on the problems mine has tho will depend on the price of a rebuild yeah (I havent really done much mechanically before and don't know alot yet.)

a motors a motor, it gets its injection from the car.
No, you'll retain ALL E series habits and gain a fresher, stiffer and smoother engine.... with a cut sump and 2 bolts missing!

Like whats already been said, it will depend on if you wanna cam it in the long run, or if your gunna leave it relativly stock.
But its hardly a question of "is it worth the time and money" when also as said it will indeed cost more, and take more time to rebuild your EF engine. Also at 282k, there will most definatly be more machining involved. Not just a simple slap in rings bearings and gaskets. So therefore, it will be cheaper, easier and quicker to just bolt in said AU motor, which will be smoother and feel great in alround driving. Andrew.

go with the au engine...
smoother.. 100.00 is nothing on these motors.. she's just run in!.. use ef head for future cam selection... stronger mains... cheaper than fully reduilding your ef.. -atleast paying someone else to do it... |

So you can use an EF head on a AU block?

Yes, but EF head with all E-series rocker gear and camshaft. Can only mix and match the complete top half to the bottom half. Can't mix and match cams, heads and rocker gear as there was a ratio change from E-series to AU. |

Is there any way of telling if my EF has a warped head without taking it apart?
