check your transmission fluid level. It will do this if it is low or running out.

you dont have a leak do you?

low trans level is the most likely option, other options include a faulty sensor, or perhaps a damaged/worn out internal componant of the transmission.

In the old days this would be slipping bands in the gearbox.
Not sure what bands are though and if new boxes have em.

yeh this happened in my ed after 230xxx k's. would drive semi-ok under light throttle but if i planted it engine would just rev to limiter. turned out one of the bands was completely worn :S i was lucky though as at the same time this happened i was given a complete ed futura from a customer that had a seized motor and a good auto

but this may not be your issue, check fluid level first and go from there.

if the level is ok but the fluid is black, drop the oil into a clean bucket and have a look to see if there is an unusual amount of metal filling's through it. if there is heaps then unfortunately your up for a rebuild. if not change the filter and gasket and refill with fresh 95le

changover auto's are $1500.

[QUOTE="Rickdefinately an external trans cooler. my XF did it a few times so i flushed the whole auto, cooler, torque converter and changed the filter. cost me 20 bucks for the filter and nothing for 11L of ATF because i'm a mechanic. will probably cost you $250-$350. if that doesn't fix it your auto is fried

well, i checked the fluids, and they arent low, and it was black or burnt. it was a brownish red?

it hasnt happend again, but what i have noticed is that it doesnt change gears when it usually did and it just builds up to about 3000 and then i take my foot off and it then it changes gear. is there another equvilant that gives me more performance?? and prices if u know?

cheers
alex
