i've been looking into getting an aftermarket block for my 331tt project..
but price varies quite alot.. a dart block is about 2.5k from summit, world products are only about $100 less, and then theres the ford racing block which is cosiderably less.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Rac ... QQtcZphoto what are the hp ratings of each block, im pretty sure the dart is rated to 1600hp, what about the ford racing block? i'm fairly sure this set up will never see 1000+hp so im thinking about block rated at 800+ would be sufficient, if the ford racing block fits the bill? any other blocks i should look into as well? thanks for your time..

Have a read from the bottom of this link mate. I was talking about looking at the BOSS block and a few people steered me in the right direction.
http://www.fordmods.com/forums/302-top- ... 8-280.html I reckon the Dart Sportsman is the way to go.

The Dart block requires less machining...
The bore are slightly undersize so they can be honed to size... Lifter bores are the same.. The deck is .020 taller.. But o/k left that way... In some cases the sump needs modifiing around #4 mains cap. But no big deal... It doesn't take long to spend on machining what you save on cheaper block... My block is the Iron Eagle version with 5 mians caps..

Mine 2 is an iron eagle with 5 main caps. The caps are cleveland size in mine. Rated to 2500hp, so i shouldnt have a problem with the correct tune. not that i am going to make anywhere near that

DART is my choice, I've also got an Iron Eagle with 5 4 bolt billet caps.
For your application I'd strongly consider the DART 8.2" Sportsman, it is the equivalent of the original Ford Racing R302 and A4 (V8 Supercar) blocks. You can have a DART Sportsman for $2900 delivered here in Perth.

its a lot of money for a piece of metal .... thanks for the replies all.. About $400-500 between the Iron Eagle and the Sportsman... The Iron Eagle will need a custom pan to clear the rear cap though. I don't think that $3000 is all that much for a "piece of metal", seeing as people pay that and more for a set of heads. Its no good having a great crank, rods pistons or heads if the block junks itself. It all becomes expensive scrap.

I said our door.... I'd have to find out what it would cost to freight to Albany, or else come for a scenic drive.
