how do i get the gear knob off my 5 speed ba falcon, i want to shorten the gear stick HELP!!!!

they are screw on the way we do it at work is we cut a peice of drivebelt so it fits around bottom of gear knob then using multi-grips on that pieve of drivebelt loosen your gear knob (we use drive-belt as it grips onto the gear knob and does'nt damage it i hope this hepls you cheers

so i put the vice grips on the actual knob itself like that leather bit or where the litttle shaft meets the gear boot material that covers u from seeingh inside it????

just twist the bastard anti clockwise. don't be affriad.. give it hell

but just twist the knob, not the boot or shaft, jsut the knob

ok fellas thanks for ther update but now second question. i got it off how much should i cut off so it wont look crappy and also wat happens wen i have cut of the thread which i will be doin do i just get those plugs that the knobs slide onto?

why not get a tap and dye kit and put a new thread on there. I know thats all my brother in law did with his when he shortened his stick.

Or cut and weld the stick. Just cutting the top part off the thread wont shorten your stick because the gknob will screw down until it hits the unthreaded part - which will be within a few mm of where it screws to normally.
