well I gather it depends on what towpack you have, have a look on the tongue of your tobar, atleast in the ef/el sedans, you can get the factory 1600kg , or the hayman reese 2300kg.
I doubt it's 1200, but I could be wrong, but I guess the fact it's a ute may be different, anyway besides my rambleing have a look around the towbar.
Admittelly I don't know how close you have to be with requirements though, theres got to be some idiot factor, how much is the question.

LOL
I have towed massive loads perhaps 3 tonne? with a 1600kg towbar on my classic wagon. I do have a transmission cooler which is an absolute must. I wondered if my body may be a little distorted but I think it's ok.
Hayman Reese make the ford towbars.

The towbar rating on my EB sedan is stuck on the tube that goes forward from near the tongue, it's 1200 or 1300kg, so maybe that's where the figure came from.

The tongue on the h/d models is thicker, i think.

Bummer, my 6cyl XG towed my EBII on a 680kg car trailer with no probs, even up big hills, power was fine, could do any speed i wanted to. Cooling was a prob at the time though, but shouldn't be now.

It would be 1200 to 1600kg.

Weak link is the clutch. They dont like the stop start.

I've towed a 2200kg load with my manual, and 1st required alot of slipping to get moving, and shifting into second was only slightly prettier. Once your on the move your set, but the amount of clutch smell when taking off was not nice. Although slightly less than when trying to tow my boat out of the water on a steep ramp.
