Rightiho - I reckon I'm going to put a beeper of some sort into the tailgate of my wagon that goes BEEP BEEP when I'm reversing... Just one of those things. Doesn't have to be loud - But will warn people directly behind that I am coming. By mounting in the boot, facing backwards towards where the obstructions are lurking, it shouldn't be too annoying for me up front.

Secondly - I have a flash little LED that cycles through all the colours and pulses... It is a standard T5 type - Those used by the instrument cluster, for instance. I pulled apart the old Futuras instrument cluster and did the BLUE LCD conversion and also pulled apart the smartlock light to replace with this LED. Funnily enough, it doesn't look like it's 12v at all. I put 9v through it, and it blew - so guess I was right about that. I can solder this LED in it's place and see what happens I guess, but would prefer to know what the hell the volatges are supposed to be first.

does your flash little led alternate colors only when voltage is constant?
b'cos the smart lock light flashes, nothing more annoying than doing all this work to find the light won't change color as there is no constant power for it to do so.

I just brought a reversing light and beeper in one unit and put it in where the bulb normally goes. (on my 4WD - but see no reason why it wouldn't work on any other car) Its lasted for over a year so far.

Yeahp, that's an idea alright. Will stop by JAYCAR and see what they have to say now. Easy one that! Wicked...

Quite right old bean. And yes, I did think of that purely as an after thought last night. The bulb will go part way through its cycle of BLUE to YELLOW constantly. And that's it. I am now using the colour cycling flashing lights for things like LOW COOLANT LEVELS and HANDBRAKE! Makes it much more attention grabbing meaning I no longer drive with handbrake on and no water in radiator.

Can you, off the top of your noggin, remember what bulb it uses? I have run wires through the dash to the space where the door lock used to be before I removed them (EF's have the old style door lock where your arm rests with window open..) Can use a couple of these wires in future for an alarm to detect when someone is pulling on door handle, but I have rigged up LED's in the recess where the locks got removed from in the hope that I can get them flashing with the smartlock operation... I need a real alarm, sure - But am still paying for my slotted and dimpled front rotors!!!

Autobarn have the BA9 bulbs with integrated beeper for reversing. We plugged one into the MIssus Territory. They seem more sturdy than the one's you get from China on eBay - we burnt one of those out in her car in less than 6 months.

The smartlock ligtht, is just a red LED.

In my EL, I relocated it, and put the flasher LED from my aftermarket alarm in it's place. stealth :)

Sorry Lukeyson - I cannot think of a name change for your quote. Gawd help me, getting old and boring... Cheers for the thoughts tho... I will go check out REPCO and SUPERCHEAP instead... I am in NZ and have never heard of Autobarn!!!

Ahem... Dude... It may be just a red LED on your one, but ... Wait a second... No - I just went and had a look... You could be quite right my dear double-O-one, licensed to electrify... It's just that funny plastic holder that the "bulb" is sitting in that threw me off... Quite right you are...

I was hoping to find somewhere to plug in some wires to emulate the flashing smartlock light elsewhere on the car. Obviously when buying a proper alarm I would follow your lead on putting the proper alarm back into smartlock place. Probably will use a superbright blue T10 mounted in the cavity of instrument cluster. But will wait until I have a real alarm, as don't want people "testing" my alarm in the meantime!

Heheh. Thanks again brother, you're a mine of useful information.

Ooh. I never knew that.

So I guess Autobarn get no benefit from the Livery on Paul Dumbrell's car in the V8 Supercar Championship when they all head to NZ?

You could add, another LED by running some wires of the exisiting LEDs leads - just do it in parallel. They may both flash a little dimmer, but the point will be made.

NONE WHAT-SO-EVER. Other than a couple of people back home who tune in on the wireless...

Dats what I was thinking... But, the other LED's I have are installed in the void left after pulling out the silly "door lock" things that you push to lock the doors.

This would mean soldering something to the LED socket in the dash and running wires through the dash to the doors... I am thinking I am going to go search (gawd, I hate searching for things on this site - I can NEVER find anything remotely close to what I want and end up asking more bloody questions!!!) for the BEM smartlock outputs and see if there's something there I can tap into.

Does anyone know if I can buy some AU seats and they'll plug straight in to my EF?

On an EL, there's a Blue/LightGreen wire heading to the cluster, that's the smartlock light.

(I hope it's the same for an EF)
