hi guys
just did a cooling system flush on my EL i6 with LPG. also fitted a new thermostat while i was at it. noticed on here that people refer to an 'lpg thermostat' which doesnt have the 'skirt' on the base of it. is this needed on all LPG falcons? what does the skirt restrict flow to? from what I can see its the steel pipe that runs underneath the inlet manifold. However my LPG conversion gets its coolant feed from above this, where the temperature sender is. if anyone has access to a factory manual and it has a coolant flow diagram or an explanation of this, i'd like to see it! I'm not having any problems, but I'm about to go on a big highway trip so would like to know beforehand if I've put the wrong thermostat in. Thanks |

In my experience there is no such thing as an "LPG thermostat". Some people are under the mis-impression that a cooler thermostat is appropriate for an LPG only car, and may call these an "LPG thermostat", but i don't agree with fitting one of these, it is not required or appropriate, in my view. But maybe i just don't know, maybe there is a thermostst that feeds warm water to the converter earlier to reduce the chance of freezing?
You say you just flushed your radiator, did anything much come out? Did you take the tanks off? If you didn't take the tanks off you can't be sure that there isn't still heaps of muck in the cores, even if nothing untoward came out while you flushed through the hose pipes. I flushed a radiator through the pipes and it was as clean as, then when it was dismantled it was found to be 50% clogged with casting sand.

have seen 3mm holes drilled in thermostats fitted to LPG cars - was told its for water flow for the convertor
my BA themostat came like this, my old EF stat had a hole drilled in it |
