Hey i was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the standard 110amp alt in an 6cyl EL to a higher one, my alt now needs to be replaced its not charging enough when i drive home from work with my sys and headlight going. I know i can get second hand ones(110amp) from the wreckers for $100 or so but figured i just have to same problem. So was wondering if the was a higher amp one thats not too $$$ and can fit in easily?

There is nothing 'off the shelf' that will fit.

I was under the impression that the EL alternator was only 100 amps and the EF was 110...

if 110 isn't enough, you either have a truely massive stereo and lighting systems, or something is wrong.

K in that case i just replace it with a factory, my leadlights r stock buy dim when i turn my sys up. I took it to an elec and he said the alt was ok but would need replacing soon. So i thought if i replace it with a second hand factory one id have the same prob. Think I'll fort out the $$$ for a reworked one.

Upgrade your earths, also have a think about getting a new battery if you've never changed it.
Doesn't have to be a dry cell or anything fancy.
This will solve the problem in 99% of cases.

Got a yellow top battery, its not the battery. When i first put the yellow to in it would start instantly, it was great now it takes a bit so im guessing its not getting charged properly.

have u checked the regulator?

grab some multi meters and see if there is 14.V or so at idle over the battery terminals

u can get the insides of an AU alt and put that in the body of the EF alt :D

well 13.5 is too low

should be 14v or more

sounds like the reg is fooked

i cant remember if they have an internal or exteran reg on the alts
