A SYSTEM to fuel cars with cheap and green hydrogen made at HOME was unveiled yesterday. A firm claimed it has slashed the cost of kit to produce the gas from water and electricity. ITM Power, of Sheffield, South Yorks, has converted a Ford Focus engine to run on hydrogen for 25 miles before switching to petrol. It should do away with the need for expensive liquid hydrogen. Sounds good, not for that sort of money though!
But if you didnt do any travelling outside of town then 25miles might be enough. The kit would save you ~$50 a week, it would take two years of driving every day to pay the unit off. Providing $4,500 is the total price, that it doesnt fail, not including maintenance time etc.
