Hi guys just wondering if the EA's had different diff ratio to the EF's?
and do the EA gear box's have different ratio's to the EF 5 speed box's?

I have an EA T5 and am thinking of using it in my EF when I convert it to manual, but I'm not sure what the ratio's are going to be like... I think I have read that the EA had a diff ratio of about 2.92:1? while the EF's had something like 3.7:1? so putting a EA 5 speed into an EF will only see ~40kmph in 1st gear or something?

The EA gear box I have now is 270,000km's old but its never had any problems and is still a good box, which is another reason I want to use it because I know its in good condition and hasnt been floged.

Any help/opinions would be good :)

hi
the ea box has a lower 1st,2nd and a slightly lower 5th..
and the ea diff ratio was 2.92.
and a std ef should be 3.08 or 3.23.
only xr and ghia model had 3.45
none came out with 3.7

im running a ea box with 3.27 diff ratio and it gets 55km out of first@5500 rpm..
it will only get 40km out of first if you have 3.9 or 4.11

well you mean shorter..lol (the higher the number the shorter the ratio)
yes.
if you have a ea box fitted and you have 3.27 diff your 1st and 2nd will be aprox the same as a ef 5 speed with 3.45.

same as ea box with 3.45 1st and 2nd will be like ef box with 3.77.

sorry to take the thread slightly off topic, damo, you wouldnt happen to have the gear ratios for a 4speed auto in there would you?
