G'day fellas,

Hopefully you can help me out

I got a ED Fairmont, with 340 000 kms on the clock. the transmission was changed a couple years back but only with another 2nd one.

Lately ive been having a few problems with the car.

Sometimes when i rev up an average hill, it revs out. Example, instead of it holding say 2500rpm, it will fly out to 3500-4000 rpm and the car will not move any better.

Dad adjusted the powerband or something like that from a ford manual he had and it helped a bit. But now the car changed gears but sticks very close to the same RPM range. and 3rd gear takes really long to change, sometimes still 3000 rpm.

Also, at times when im at the traffic lights, i take off, the car jumps a few times till it hits over 20km hr.

At other times, if i try and test the cars faults out, and i put the pedal to the floor, the car doesnt accelerate any faster as it used to and it accellerates in speed very slowly and the revs just keep rising then finally it will change gears.

Im pretty positive its from the Transmission, though the car is having problems in many different ways, so i just want to get some opinions that its not electronic problem link to the tranny or anything.

Fuel pump and filter have been changed not long ago also.

Appreciate your help

Hi mate,
Sounds like your tranny needs attention for sure. It could be the band adustment or it could be the torque converter.
Take it to a trans shop & see what they say,but it looks like you may need to look around for another.

the trans might just need a service and the bands tightened, you never know.

how is the fluid level?

If its free revving while trying to accel thats not good, something is slipping. Go to the trans joint whenever you get a chance leaving it only going to make it worse.

Mybe try a inhibitor switch first before you change the trans.
