Why the hell should NSW tax payers cough up $20-30million for a temporary street circuit when they have already spent $134million on Eastern Creek? You do realise Homebush would come at the expense of losing the EC round?

It makes absolutely no sense to spend public money on a temporary venue wnen;
A, there's a perfectly good permanent venue that the govt already owns
B, temporary venues do nothing to help the public in general (ie. driver training and amateur motorsport the rest of the year)

Heated discussion here http://www.techmasters.com.au/forum/vie ... f=3&t=3494

eastern creek managment and v8 supercar managment have had a massive falling out lately and claim they will never race there again...

oran park is closing down... leaving only homebush as the sole sydney event....

and may have huge innitial costs... but with huge crowds comes big pulic spending dollars...

True, but why should the NSW taxpayer pay the price so that Cochrane and his mates can make all the profits?

Do not believe the hype.

Crowd numbers are always artificially inflated and studies have shown the overall effects of events at temporary venues to be negative (infotech has posted heaps of supporting info on that IPRA link that I gave, specifically on page 5)

I though TC said that he'd (V8SC/VESA/TEGA etc.) cover all the costs, just needs the NSW gov't to approve it.

If that was the case then the QLD govt and Townsville council would be seriously p****d that it's costing them nearly $30million over 5 years for their race.

Cochrane said Homebush would definitely work from a monetary viewpoint.

“We, V8 Supercars Australia, believe that if we can run a street race around Homebush we can make it economically stack up,” he said.

“And if it’s a loss, it’s a loss to V8 Supercars Australia.”

Cochrane said V8 Supercars would take the financial risk at Homebush just as it does at Bathurst, Phillip Island and Tasmania and will at Townsville next year.

“We’re putting our money where our mouth is,” he stressed.

Seems TC is paying. (at least that's how I read it)

That's because it's an article on the V8SC website and the author skimmed over the bit where the $30 million in the second paragraph is actually coming from.

"The Sydney Morning Herald article, by Wendy Frew, was more negative, saying: "Sydney Olympic Park, once lauded as the site of the 'Green Games', could be transformed into a giant racetrack by the end of the year after the state government gave in-principle support to a car race that could cost taxpayers $30 million and involve pulling up hundreds of trees and kilometres of tarmac."
