hi guys
ive had my clutch die and while the box is out ive changed the input shaft seal as it was leaking. silly me didnt look how it was when i pulled it off. the problem im having is does the retainer go back on the box a certain way? on the inside there is what looks like an oil hole that lubricates the bearing or lets oil run out of the bearing? but the retainer doesnt have any markings to say which way is up. the retainer is back on the box but i want to make sure it the right way around before i put the box back in. if anyone has a pic of the input shaft/retainer fitted or just a front on pic of the box it would be good. ill take a pic tomorrow of mine to compare. if anyone can help it would be apreciated.. thanks |

If it's an EA/XF box, be careful with the input shaft - support it and leave it where it is - there are 15 needle rollers between it and the mainshaft - pull the IS forward, and they'll go everywhere - i.e. bottom of the case.
The collar will have two oil drain holes, a small one and a larger one, it does say to position the larger one at the bottom, but I doubt it matters, so long the oil gets to drain back into the main case. Make sure the IS front bearing outer shell has it's spacers behind it - these are to preload the IS to the mainshaft.

NP Troy - Nice to speak to you at KK's the other week.
The needles are between the input shaft and output shaft, so they can't be seen - the later boxes have a tapered bearing pressed onto the mainshaft. The bearing your referring to is the front input shaft bearing. The outer shell of this bearing that fits into the back of the input shaft retainer should have a spacer or two - they may stay in there due to oil keeping them there.

Yeah mate, good luck with it all.
Hope your plate comes with 6 springs instead of those crappy rubber dampers.

yea i hope so..
thats the first clutch that ive had do that.. it probably would have kept working but the rubber had fallen in between the clutch plate and flywheel bolts jamming the clutch plate. so it didnt matter how much i tried to adjust it it was jammed.. lol |

Yeah, I've never seen a plate damper spring fail.
