Hi all...
I have recently purchased a car with a nice stereo but am finding that it has a whine noise in it while listening. it changes with the revs of the car too. is it something to do with the amps earth wire?? bad connection? any help appreciated... thanks ben |

Check if the power cable is running alongside the RCA cables. If they are, separate them by running the power cable down one side of the car while the RCA cables on the other side. Also if the cables have to cross each other, make sure they cross in a perpendicular manner, rather then parallel. If the cables are well separated then check the Earth and make sure it's anchored properly.
If all that is good, check the head unit and see if it is earthed well as well. If that is all good, try removing the earth cable at the engine block, clean the bolt and nut, then retighten it on. That might help. Had a whine problem in my car, then replaced the engine and the whine dissapeared...i pointed the finger at the bad earth in the engine bay. phong =P~

as phong said its an electrical problem. i've usually found it is to do with electrical connections. so make sure all conections to do with the stereo are good (eg. not hanging on by a couple of threads of wire) and that they are secure

I have it too, is it dangerous or bad for speakers etc to have? If so I'll have to fix it up. It's only noticable when there's silence between songs.

I'd suggest fix it. stops the nuisance...and I guess it can help in the tiniest bit, since the amp/speakers don't produce sound and so less wear...but really so minute it doesn't matter.

BA-BF are known to be quite noisey , try upgrading the body to engine earth strap seem to help it a lot

thanks guys, i think it is the earth that needs looking at. i went to a mates place thats pretty good with stereo's and he seemed to think the same thing, everything else looked ok he thought.
my next question is anyone know how to remove the bottom part of the back seat????? as it looks like the amps are earthed underneath. just not sure how you move it, which way to slide it to unclip it etc.... thanks again ben |

It whines more with more revs but it's only on really quiet songs or when it's just silence, then when the head unit is switching songs it cuts out, then back when the next song starts.

there are 2 clips for the rear seats, to take it out you need to push down on the front of the seat and push back at the same time as there is a hook which holds the seats in place... once you pop these out you simply lift it out
