ok so i have the chance to either buy a full 3.27 ( being disk to disk. with abs) or i can get 3.45 center gears. im unsure which way to go. alot of people always say 3.45 but i would think it would be better to swap the whole diff at once rather then one part.
so my question is which way should i go?? what would the difference be between each, and anything i should know about swapping the gears etc. my car is an ED Fairmont with abs and is also a manual.

The taller the diff ratio, the faster the engine revs, therefore more fuel usage, but better acceleration. IMAO, complete diff change is best.

Get the 3.45s man Youll notice it more and get alot better acceleration off the line

Yeah just change the center. Dont forget after though you will need to get your speedo corrected

If you do a diff gear change, then you will know if anything is broken and might need replacing and you will have better diff gear ratios for metro driving. Highway driving you will be sitting higher on the revs.
Disc to disc diff change would be relatively easy, but you don't know the condition of the internals of the diff. They could be shtuffed and changing the oil might not fix the problem. Unless you already have it open and inspected and good to go...if that's the case, I'd take that as an easier option. Just depends on what you are willing to do and what you want out of it. phong =P~

im looking for off the line performance, and something that will suit the manual. doesnt really bother me which is easier, id probably get a diff guy to install the center where as i would install it my self if i was to swap the whole lot.

personally id use 3.27's with the 5 speed, since they have a shorter top gear over the 4 spd auto. any higher than 3.45's and first starts to become a non event.
at a guess maybe you will do 2200rpm at 100ks with the 3.45's. based on mums ef xr6 wagon doing 2000 at 100 clicks with same diff ratio and 4 speed auto.

yea im going to go for the 3.37 just for the ease of it, swap the whole thing, i just need to put my disks on there as his are stuffed but that should be easy. hoping ill get it all done my self in a day or 2, with little knowledge or this stuff ill give my self a little extra time. got no idea what my current gear ratio is, but im guessing im going to need to get the speedo corrected.
