How do I adjust the clutch on my manual AU1 XR8?
The friction point is right at the end of the travel and i dont like it. I want it about half way down the travel, not right before the peddle is completely released. Can this be done at home or is it easier and quicker for a mechanic to do it? I dont mind paying a little if it's too complicated a job. Thanks

Arn't the V8's a hydraulic clutch? if so there isn't any adjustment.

I know what you're saying mate, its a real pain to drive when its like that. I set my clutch up just right on my wagon and its all bad news. You will need to take the gearbox out and adjust the pivot point on the fork. Fortunately I only did this twice and I got it right second time. Better to get a mechanic to do it you're not that way inclined.
EDIT: All E&A series are cable clutch not hydro. |

Don't the cable driven clutches have a um, nut on them near the firewall, you turn it, and adjusting you go? Thats how I did mine. But mines a six, but still should be the same??

Yeah there is a nut there but thats there to take up any slack in the actual clutch actuation. You can adjust it to suit but then the clutch will not engage disengage properly. The fork inside the bellhousing needs to be set up before the cable can be adjusted though. Its the same deal if you have ever had to replace the clutch.
Now that I think of it, my bellhousing, fork pivot are aftermarket. I dont know if there is an actual adjustable fork pivot on the sixes or factory V8 bellhousings but mine was all adjustable. Please disregard my bodgy advice. Sorry guys. |

just pull on the cable from the engine side of the fire wall screw the nut about one full turn and take it for a spin then just fine tune it i had about 5 goes at it untill i was happy with it

All resolved. Ford did it for me under warranty with some other work. Drives like a new car!
