Do they work? to what extent? has anyone tried it?

There is a fair amount of cutting up the dash involved, so I'd say don't bother. You'd have to do a bit of electrical work as well.

Considering that the BA and FG dashes are completely different shapes, and also a very different wiring loom, I'd say this would be a very difficult task.
Can't say I blame you for wanting to try though... the FG cluster looks awesome on the XR's. |

very different wiring loom??
do you know this for a fact? most functions of the dash are done via CAN, majority of it works with ONLY the CAN. And the stuff that isnt can is just simple s**t anyway, like fuel level, and simple on/off for the idiot strip lights.. I think the program will arise with the software differences between the FG and the BA's. A more likely match would be the BF/FG ecu/clusters... I remember overhearing at FTG that darren was getting some FG clusters - i think one of the guys at FTG might have some input on this subject... |

If you want a full working dash cluster(including the LCD screen between the gauges) then I'd say it'd be a reasonably difficult thing to do. We do retrofitting at work. There was a fair amount of cutting into the dash and I'm pretty sure the Elec's had a bit of work to get everything on the LCD functioning as they do now.
Not saying it can't be done, Im just saying it'll be difficult |

the new FG actually uses several different CAN networks of different speeds for different functions, and the new IC's are integrated with a few of those - thus it wont work

I've also heard that the new Clusters are smartshield integrated.
If this is the case, it would mean that you can't swap them between FG models either without re-enabling them - just like the BEM and the ICC on the BA/BF/SX/SY. I'd have to dive into an FG workshop manual to know for sure. There don't seem to be any about.... Lukeyson |

I've seen the occasional FG cluster pop up on ebay, mainly from FTG. They do look very nice, especially the XR/FPV ones.
