Have a look under both cars and see if the diff ratio is the same in both cars.
You may find one has 3.08s, and one has 3.23s or something. may account for the higher revs and more acceleration. Do both cars cruise at the same RPM at 100?? Wheels and tyres can also cause similar proplems, if one has larger wheels, it will accelerate slower too. Cheers David.

Also, i've been told the e-series 4L actually go harder/make more hp when they're on their way out. Go out with a bang, so to speak. I was told the same thing.... funnily enough my mate said it to me what I comment how quick my car felt for a week and then dum dum dummmm she killed over... (on a ef) alltho a mate with a ed had the same thing a stock with 2.5" catback pulled 124.3rwkw then a few weeks (maybe a month tops) it done a head... both were fixed easy with AU motors.. |

My old EF did that too, ('95 EF classic, superlows, and an exhaust.) I lit it up around the corner into my street, single-leggin its brains out, and it banged second going off its head.. The thing was flying, best it had ever performed... i said 'Still goes alright for an old pig' and next thing it launched the tank clean off the radiator, right outside my house.. it blew the headgasket out from the middle of number 6 piston back. it was on the trans.. lol, went out with a bang alright..

get someone to foot flat your accelerator pedal while car is off, and check if the throttle body butterfly is open all the way, ie see if u can move the metal clip next to the TB up more ?
then timing, advance the b**ch, and slap in some high octance juice (yea you might want to check the fuel filter to) but go for that and it should move way more...

ey mate i would have to say the "BIG BANG" theory if u will is common place as my car has done it aswell. I think just give it the oil change fuel filter and air filter too.
Like previously stated it could come down to ratio's ie is your mates car an 'S', XR6, 'mont anythin special ? My mates EBII(gli) with factory fitted gas used to kill my EBII('mont) with a standard impco system but his car was ex grandpa and mine was an ex company car lol so lots of possibilities!!! |

Reading through the thread and seeing as it was an older relatives ex car given that you've replaced filters, plugs and leads, your timing may be out although I'd be more inclined to think your cat is starting to block up. Especialy if it was just used as transport from here to there and not given an occasional cleanout or full throttle flogging.

Huh? Never heard of the static timing going "out" due to lack of service on any engine fitted with an electronic/hall effect/optical cam or crank angle sensor. How does it go out? |
