hi will a ef/el aircon compressor still work ok with only 5 ribs being used on the puley for the 3 belt instead of all 6 as when the engine goes i want to put a au or good el engine in and use the belt setup on the later engine but i dont want to regas the ac twice as my pump needs replacing and the acs going to have to be regased.
can i use a 5pk 915 belt for the ef pump pulley so i dont have to regas the ac again when i put the later engine in with the later belt or do i have to use 6 rib belts and only 6 rib. reason is because the pump looks the same as the eb/ed pump but the ed pump has 5 ribs on the pulley not 6 like the el and i think thats the only diffrence |

the pump looks the same as the ed one but i think the only diffrence is the ef one has a 6 rib pulley and the ed one has 5 rib pulley. i dont spose one less rib in the 6 rib pulley will make much diffrence will it

no. it seems to me the extra rib is because one belt drives the lot ( el,etc. ) and the 5 on there should be fine.

the problem you will have is the ef/el air con pump (when bolted up)will sit about 12mm further forward compared to the ed one..
the 5 rib belt will be ok to use but you might need to make an offset plate to bring the pump back so the ed pulley lines up with the ef pump.. |
