im after an AU series 4.0 motor for a project and was wondering what the difference is between the 2, if its on things like better balanced and different pistons it won't bother me as that sort of stuff can be changed for full rebuild. i wont have to worry about the manifolds computer and injection setup as it will all be removed for straight gas turbo.
But if any one knows the differences could they let me know plz :)

In the au series the std valves and valve springs are the same as xr6 tickford but in the the tickford xr6 exhaust ports are aparently alittle larger.. i cant really tell the difference by looking at the ports lol.
the cam is different and the fuel reg also.

actually the std au valves are the same diameter as the ef/el tickford ones.

Didn't the xr6's have VCT, with around 172kw?

Edit: there was both a VCT and a non-VCT xr6 released.

In AU3 utes (dont know about sedans) the xr6 had VCT the XLS had the series 2 xr6 motor and the xl had the stock motor. I used to own an AU3 xls ute that I purchased new and it had a non VCT tickford motor in it from the factory.
