Hey guys,
*im not new to the forum, just new account cos the other one stopped working for some reason*
Had a s**t day, managed to smash up my front side drivers door and am now in the market for a new one. I took it to a smash repairs to get a quote but because they were just finishing up for the day the guy did a quick quote. He said the door would have to be replaced and that a second hand one would cost about 250-350$, does this sound right? could i get one cheaper myself from a wrecker? Its off a silver AU series 2. The locking mechanism looks intact, the window is intact and still goes up and down (not all the way up) the door handle is screwed.

The guy said the cost to respray would be like 50$-100$ and another 100$ in labour, so like 500$+ in total. Does this price sound reasonable?
I live in mudgeeraba so if anyone on here does panel beating and can do it cheaper or knows of a good cheap place somewhere close on the coast that would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

think if you hunt around you may even to be lucky to find a silver door off a AU to BF, prices should vary from 150 to like 450 dollars depending on what year model how long the wreckers have had the door etc,

prices seem to be off by a few dollars but as you said it was a quick quote,

here is my advice try and track down an au door (maybe even silver or a light coloured door (makes painting it quicker) if your other doors internals are fine just get a bare shell (would be cheaper then a complete door)

to paint a door it would range from like 300 to 500 dollars...

(these prices are exact it is just quick guide as it ranges from the door's condition and how busy the panel beaters are etc etc)

if you can buy a door form the wreckers in the same colour, fitting it should take you less than half an hour..

You might need an extra pair of hands to line up the hinges b it''s easy to do.

all the au's had standard electric front windows so only change needed is your door lock which is simple.

Well then, thats decided, if i can find a matching car door while my parents are away ill do it myself. I kinda havent mentioned it to them and dont really plan to, i smashed the door after only just getting it back from the panel beaters from the previous ding.

If it is like the E series, there is a grub style bolt in the hinge. Remove this bolt on both hinges and lift the door up to separate the 2 halves of the hinge.

get a hammer and gently but firmly tap the top of the bolts that should crack the thread to turn it to crack it properly to remove it

that is the trick we use at work to remove moody bolts
