Any body had any experiance with them? im looking at fitting one to the turbo car (has a T5). My only worry is as with the extra weight on the main shaft it will slow my shifts. But the driveability will be better than having a button clutch.
Opions?

Opions? i cant comment on using a twin plate clutch, as i have never used one myself. but as for worrying about the extra weight, man, its a road car. if you were in an F1 car i would be concerned about the extra 20 milliseconds that the weight would cause. and even then, the extra weight would slow the rev up of the engine, its a rotating mass on the back off the flywheel. It wont effect how quickly you throw the gear stick. and the difference that the weight will make on the back of the shaft is d**k all anyway. |

Your wrong.
The reason i ask is that i noticed a difference when my car was N/A. i changed from the smaller EA three bolt clutch to the 6 bolt EF-EL clutch just before i went too turbo and i did notice the shift time get longer. It does this because the sincro's have to work harder to slow the mainshaft down so the gears mesh correctly. And with the twin plate Its not just a rotating mass on the flywheel there's two clutch plates on the mainshaft!!! With the smaller clutch i could slam each gear s**t fast, now its more of a quick shift. so i figured the twin plate will extend that further. I read on another thread a guy with a twin plate in a BA turbo was having problems with long shift times. So i though id try and get a general consensus on here. And 20millisecond's can be the difference between a win and a loose.

Would it be better to simply go with a heavy duty single plate clutch. I had a twin plate clutch in an xc v8 I built with 4speed box and shift time was slower but later found I could have used F100 heavy duty clutch no probs not to mention could have been a s**t load cheeper too.

Yeah I've got a H/D in at the moment and its been fine but it has only now just started to slightly slip at W.O.T in third (either that or im getting slight wheel spin which i doubt). All in all it did the job fine but now I've upped the boost a bit i think its getting close to the end of it potential capacity.

I dont think a twin plate will do you justise if the h/d is letting go. May cost more but brass button could be the only answer unless you like regular clutch replacement.

Also you can look into the cushioned ceramic that Extreme has to offer maybe...

Check out Textralia and see if they have a clutch to suit, f**k top clutch and you'll never have a drama with one

You will have to counter balance the weight with a heavier harmonic balancer. Had a Hemi with triple webers and twin plates at the time were more trouble than they were worth, plates tended to not separate on slick changes. Spend the most you can afford on a good single plate.
