had a slight rattle in the front of the motor crop up last week. over (about 170k's or so) it began to sound a little more terminal.
took it to my regular mech and he did a great job very quickly too. turned out the bearings where shot to pieces (probably wouldnt have survived another 150k) and the seal would have gone very quick unusual thing is that untill that point, i had no cooling issues or other noise nor did i loose a single drop of coolent from the tank. the motor seems to rev a little freer now too, however the bearings where not crunchy just shot to pieces. anyone had anything similar?

its pretty common.
Also, there's no reason if the seals didn't leak, that the engine should overheat. The impeller is still working, its just been noisy.

Its common as above. The rattle is the impala hitting on the block. Did my brothers a month a go in his EL XR6. Water pump was $40 and an hour or 2 to replace it.

gee that's cheap for a pump I got mine at trade price from Ford for $70, then bought myself a steel pulley at Burson for like $20. phong =P~

can't remember the brand of the $50 ones but couldve been powermax, weren't genuine but were reputable. i'm not sold on genuine anyway.
even those ally castings for the thermo neck and housing are pretty cheap. cracked a few of those....

Not sure why you define that as Catastrophic. Seems to me you got away very well - you wern't left on the side of the road stranded and repacing a water pump isn't very expensive. All up it's as good as you could hope to get really if something was going to break on your car.

Genuine pumps are the only ones ever to get. Aftermarket just do not compare. Its on the of decent original parts Ford did design well! |
