Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the IAT output for a given intake air temp? i.e. anyone know a chart/table online?

Martin, I'll check the service manual tonight. Although I think that will have resistance values, not voltages. The manuals seems a bit strange like that. Sometimes they show voltage measurments, other times they show resistance.

Beauty. Cheers Adrian. Certainly no rush, just thinking out loud

Here are the values for the V8 ACT sensor.
Degrees C / Voltage 10 = 3.52v 20 = 3.06v 30 = 2.62v 40 = 2.16v 50 = 1.72v 60 = 1.35v 70 = 1.04v 80 = 0.80v 90 = 0.61v 100 = 0.47v 110 = 0.36v 120 = 0.28v |

Or if you want resistance (to add resistors for the ebay style tuning):
For ECT and IAT: 10C = 58750 Ohm 20C = 37300 30C = 24270 40C = 16150 60C = 7599 80C = 3843 100C = 2069 Notice it is not Linear.

Looks like the exact same output as the 6cyl IAT and CTS.
Out of interest, what are you thinking of doing 4.9? |

{USERNAME} wrote: Or if you want resistance (to add resistors for the ebay style tuning): As you mentioned those ebay "power" resistors LOL, it is interesting that the ACT doesn't actually do anything until the air temp reaches 90 degrees, which is fairly damn hot. Sort of prooves that those kits just don't work. {USERNAME} wrote: Out of interest, what are you thinking of doing 4.9?
I assume he just wants to see what the air charge temp is with the blower. Would be a good way to see how effective a cold air setup or water injection is though. |

Fantastic, thanks to grant and adrian.
So i assume the sensor has 5v fed into it, the resistance created by the sensor alters the output voltage? No, im certainly not attempting any tuning methods from ebay's tuning shop! lol. EDXR8 is correct, thought I might attempt to monitor the intake temp via the sensor's output. More for interest than anything else.... What are your opinions on the validity of this? Do you think the sensor is reactive enough to provide useable output? Just tap into the loom going to eec and have an appropriately calibrated voltimeter? Just thinking out loud.....

I think it will be useful. The sensor may be slow to react to changes but your temperature is going to be fairly constant anyway.
It's a pity its not linear, but it is still useable. Just remember if you are doing some tests with different intake mods, record the ambient temperature at the same time as IAT. On a hotter day you will get hotter IAT, this may cloud your judgment on the mod you are currently trying.

Reading the sensor would definitly be usefull, and the sensor should be accurate and should be fairly fast acting. As I said, it would be an ideal way to test different CAI setups and water injection tuning.

What you guys think about something like this?
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.store ... View/Q2041 But with a more appropriate range... i.e. 0-6v Would be simple to adapt a scale on there. Would this be a parrallel connection or serial with -ve to earth of car?

Don't bother with that s**t Martin.
Just buy a digial multimeter and use that. heaps of other uses for it too. The meters you can buy for $50 now are as good as the $300 ones from a few years ago. Hell you can even get one that connect to a laptop to use as a datalogger. Put the -ve probe on the car body and the +ve on the sensor wire. This is parallel connection, the only possible way to use a voltmeter.

I spent $120 on a DMM a while ago.. it has the PC datalogging feature, and even has a temp probe
Pretty fancy!

I don't think its something you need to monitor all the time. Would just be good to check that what temp it runs at and keep an eye on it every once in a while to make sure the water injection and air intake are working ok.

Coolness. Yeah ive got a DMM sitting around somewhere so that'll do fine...
Thanks for your time guys.
