i have just put a el xr8 engine and auto into my ef... it drives ok but the auto won't shift properly.
you have to be doing around 50kmh for it to change into 2nd, 75 for 3rd and about 100 for 4th gear. it shifts fine and doesn't slip, and changes normally under full throttle. it also changes down gears when slowing down.
i changed the filter but didn't change all the oil, only about 4l.
anyone had this problem before? :?

did you change the ecu to suit the motor-gearbox combo.

I would be looking at the ECU for the Diff gears. If the diff gears are wrong, then you will get these symptoms. Try changing the sender from the box to the appropiate one for the current diff gears.

oh sorry i put the diff in aswell so that should all be right.
i had to put the ecu in cos my ef was a 6cyl, all the wiring, auto computer, loom etc.
it doesn't hit the rev limiter or shift to early under full throttle... which is what it would do if the diff/speedo gear was wrong.
a few people have mentioned the auto tps so i might have a look at that...

ok found the problem :) disconnected the auto tps and it shifts early (must be like a default mode) but now atleast it goes into the higher gears and im not driving around at 3000rpm!
so now i have to set the tps.. have to wait until tomorrow night when i get a multimeter at home.

yeah i think it would have about 1billion error codes! the oil light, abs and airbag lights are on all the time haha.
cos its a gli with one airbag not 2, no abs and no oil gauge (or pressure sender is stuffed)
i'm just glad its not the auto itself, couldn't be bothered spending another weekend taking it out!
