I recently put on Goodyear Regatta 1 in 215/60/15 which are a step down from NCT's but they seem to hang on in the wet well. They are an all season tyre so that probably helps, but was previously running retreads so in comparison anything was probably going to be a big improvement. Regatta 2 is meant to be even better, and at $125 would be good value. |

OK from the guy who Has driven a million Klm.
I am having very good results cheap with 225/60R15 bridgestone ER30's I have tried everything and these are nearly as good as $180 Yokohamas for only $120 each and last longer. Not a sport tyre per se' but a good compromise.

How bout another pirelli, p6000 maybe.great tyres.
Bridgestone will kill you.Absolute crap and perform differently from day to day. Sava and any other cheap brand are Sh?t. Toyo ,cant comment on,havent used them,but from my experience people who sell tyres sell you what they can make the most profit on. When i want pirelli rossos or corsa or michelin pilot sports they try to sell me hankooks,Get real!!!!

the 215/60 r15 full silica compound Hankooks I had where one of the best all round tyres ive ever come across. they were 120 a corner. the base model ones would be s**t but it comes down to compound.
as for nexen, they are almost in the same boat as sava. I have a set of 215/60 r16's on the au at the moment. in the dry they are sweet, hang on great, but as soon as there is moisture on the bitumen, its taily. and not the predictable sort. will hang on/let go as it desires, with no hint of predictability. I do run them at 36 odd psi, so that cant help, but they are a very hard compound. my best bet is to drive them into the ground, and get newies lol.

I had 215/60X15 on my previous EL wagon.
My current EL wagon had 205/65X15 but now has 225/50X16. My EF sedan had 225/50X16. All these tyres were/are Toyo Teo. The grip on all of these tyres is better than average in the dry, and due to the silica compound 1 of the best in the wet. My EF currently has 235/45X17 Firestones on it, happy with them so far. The rolling radius of the 215/60X15 is slightly lower (smaller) than a 205/65X15. The rolling radius of the 225/60X15 is slightly longer (Larger) than a 205/65X15. The 215 will give you better steering response and a slightly better launch than the 225.

So Nexen's don't hold on in the wet? Damn. I hate driving in the wet with my current tyres - they don't grip at all. Give it half throttle going up my street and the back will slide... Doesn't help that they're nearly bald.
What would you guys recommend for a cheap performance-type tyre. I had Supercats on the EA and didn't have too many problems. $210 a pair, balanced, etc.

My vote for 215-60-15s is Toyo Trampios.

My honest opinion if I were selling you the tyres unless you requested a specific brand I'd recomend the Bridgestone potenza GIII, not only from driving experiance but customer feedback as well. They have a thicker side wall than most other brands in same size whichmakes them more ridge and handell well not only on wet or dry sealed roads but love the dirt roads as well. Only down sides are more ridged side wall need extra air pressure (36-38 works well) and there may be a little more road noise due to directional tread pattern.

..not meaning to drag this thread on.... but I was talked into ordering some Yokohama AVS V550's...
I went to 3 tyre shops and none sold Toyo's or Falken's... wierd! So the yoko's were cheap (IMO) at $189 ea fitted....so I'll take the car in on Sat. to get them put on and see if they turn out any good. 
If they turn out crap, I might keep looking for a tyre shop that sells the Toyo's. One shop insisted Sumitomo's were "awesome" and that was all they stocked. Theres got to be some better shops around Melbourne somewhere ?! I ended up passing by Watergardens to visit a mate when I found the Yoko's so I'll hike out there to get 'em. |

Its not about how hard he drives.Its about having a great tyre that just doesnt let go,unlike the cheap s**t most people use.You can drive like miss daisy but there will come a time when you need to get out of the s**t and it will be the tyre to get you out of it.Its typical of the mentality of some sales people to only recommend the tyres they make the most on.He said at the start that he doesnt mind spending money so all he needs to do is look at the dearest tyre in his size from michelin,pirelli,yokohama,continental etc anything else is a waste of time. Sumitomo htr are ok but not when you push em.
