The wiring is the biggest job, especially if you intend to mix looms like I did for mine. As mine is an ED V8, it's harder to find looms so I used the donor EF Fairmont loom with the dash. This meant using the 6cyl engine bay loom that runs from under the dash into the engine bay and wraps its way around to the LH front of the vehicle where the thermo fan relays are. The only ECU I could find was out of a DL V8 and I have to ensure that the wires from the 6cyl EF Fairmont dash loom fitted the DL V8 loom. The plugs fitted, but there were a few wires that needed to be added. I also kept my existing ABS system and isolated its loom from the rest of the old ED loom and then incorporated it into the EF loom. I also had to scab parts of the EF climate control such as the fan speed controller and solenoid block. My existing EB pedal box had to be modified to suit the dash also. Here are some photos:

You can see that the only thing in the last photo to do is to get rid of the EA-ED handbrake. The EF gear boot surround is another $65 to the bill which I'll get soon.

but why mummy?

I am about to strip my damaged ef fairmont wagon and instal almost everything into an ef gli rolling shell I bought cheap.

I have been sidetracked by moving into our new house and the wasteland garden etc. etc. There is starting to be enough room in the garage to get stuck into the job. I just need to find some time. getting the fairmont stripped so I can dump the old body has to be high on the "keep the Mrs happy list"
I really would like to clear it from the backyard ASAP. Of course once i start and the windows dont stay up and it's no longer waterproof I have to finish in the weekend. Actually it will probably be easter which is of course when I bought the fairmont last year to start the whole adventure.

Damn, time to revive this thread. I am sorry I have not got back to yall about the handbrake. To tell you the truth I didn't want to post anything until I was entirely happy with its operation. An then, I kind of forgot about it with all the stuff going on. Enough excusses, eh?

I discovered why it was not clamping so well a couple of months back when I went to replace the brakepads and I discovered that one of the rear calipers was clamped on. Fixed now.

The doco is in progress, should be finished in a few days.

So how is the doco going mate? I've still got 2 handbrakes in my car:)

I'll be setting up a very very simple pulley system under the car. I will retain most of the existing ED handbrake stuff under the car but will be mounting a pulley wheel under the car and will re-route the EF handbrake cable so that it will actuate the ED handbrake lever bar that dissects the drivers side chassis rail. Pics to come....
