Hey guys as the of my thread say, My thermostate housing is leaking, ive checked the thermostate and thats fine it's just the housing it self is leaking and it is some what anoyying me. im wondering what the best way to fix would be ?. Should i (a) take the housing off a seal it up with some of that gasket sealant or should i (b) replace the housing ?

Depends where it's leaking from exactly. If there's a crack then dont bother trying to seal it. You can get a complete thermostat housing including heater piping for about 30 bucks from the wreckers. If it's just from the join then take it off, clean off the old gasket/silicone, and gasket goo the crap out of it. Just replaced my cracked thermostat doing that and knock on wood so far so good

take it off, get a file and give it a go. they warp a little with only two bolts. you'll see where the high spots are very quickly.
get another o ring seal too. you can use a soft gasket glue if you like, just mind the coolent. did this to mine not long ago, hasnt lost a drop since

Which housing are we talkin about here??? The top water neck or the lower t'stat housing??? Is it at the gasket where it meets the head???
Or where the water neck meets the housing??? Or where the top hose goes on the water neck???

its leaking from the top housing (the one where the hose connects to). Also gave him some gasket sealer. told him to change gasket. other wise just told him to get a new one as they are only $30 new.

I found you have to file the water neck and the t'stat housing to get them to seal again, as they get out of shape from over tightening.
