i was just out driving and for some reason the ECONOMY light came on the dash and my car started running like rough, idleing very low and blowing black carbony smoke.
the car is manual though it was auto so not sure if someting has gona a miss there. ive checked the map sensor and other vacuum hoses and they are fine. not 100% sure on what the problem is. if anyone knows what it could be or had this happen let me know the answer. cheers.

Hey mate
Has your car still got the auto ECU in? my guess is something may have shat itself. Maybe try getting an actual Manual ECU. It fixes up your idling problems and so on.

Generally when the economy light flashes up on the dash it means your auto gearbox is overheating. So if your car is still running the auto ecu after manual conversion, the ecu might be trying to put the car into limp home mode.
Don't know whether limp home mode alters fuel maps except locks auto in 3rd. Try disconnecting the battery, too reset the ECU and see if it happens again. Cheers
