hi all im a bit of a newbie when its comes to car electronics/stereo so i figured here was a good place to ask
Im after a decent battery that can power my sound system. i currently have an exide unit and its getting old and dying it was only a basic model. i have two amps ones a mono at 1x350rms and the other is a 4 channel 4x100. ive had it hooked up and it basically kept dying. ive gone to an auto electricion and he said my alternator is fine but the batterys on its last legs ive got one battery in mind basically because they sell them where i work and i can get staff discount just wondering if it would be any good its the exide X56D Volts 12 CCA 550 RC 105 its seems like a good deal for under $200 but im keen to get feedback or any recomendations |

Best budget battery IMO is a $20 wrecker's job!

Get an 'allrounder', part deep cycle, part cranking basically.
Mine has around 550CCA, 140mins reserve, 65 ah, cost 190. I think its got 2/3 yrs warranty too. All IIRC though lol. Fkn works though. Thing got me 10 clicks thru surfers with no clutch, so it was starting the car in 1st, and uphill sometimes too. Fk I hate traffic lights now aye. Btw, I'm running a 1000rms mono and a 4x75rms with no probs, will go for an hour easy at a reasonable volume. |

most Monoblocks and the new P series alpine amps are class D... that means they are not powering all the time but cycling on and off.. so fast you don't notice.
Allows them to use a heap less power and get less hot, which is good because the heat is wasted power. If your amps are not class D.. it can be worth upgrading them.. your electrical system will thank you and your ears will not know the difference. As for the battery.. Odyssey or Optima are usually pretty good. pricey but they last for ages when looked after. Other suggestion is to get a 30 dollar solar panel from Supercheap and put it on your back shelf (they are pretty small, only a foot by 5 inches) and wire it in.. discharging your battery wears it out.. keeping it topped up will make it last heaps longer. I get many many years from mine under massive loads (have a pretty decent stereo) because it never stays low for long. Every day while I'm at work, it's topping up in the car park. |

the EA has an RAA Ultra Heavy Duty Powerpack. it sat for 6 months in the car without being started, then cranked for over 20 minutes trying to start the car, and didnt have the faintest intentions of weakening.
best battery under $130 i reckon.

Go for a good second hand wreckers and get a battery for $30- $40 That someone else paid big $$$ for months earlier. Racv make crap batteries, Exide are good but usually fall over after warranty expires. Varta are the only one that i know that are really good but they cost big $$$

I have the X56D with no problems from K-Mart on their 20% off sale. They are up to $160 now.
I got a big Powercharge battery when mine died 2 1/2 years ago from a servo. It cost me $130 and died totally 6 months ago. I was not amused...

I buy 2 types:
1: Caterpillar dry cell and add acid (then you know its new) 2: Ac Delkor (550cca for around $100) from a few truck suppliers.
