if you don't blow up the intake pipe itself, you'll blow up the airbox.
leave the clips off and work out whats causing the backfiring in the first place. generally its an ignition issue or running lean

it happens? my ED backfires every so often, might have the wrong gap on your plugs. i say take the springs off your air box and use a jokey strap instead. maybe get it re turned..

Running Lean can do this, and using a POD filter in particular with better flow can too.
You probably need to get the lpg System re-tuned after changing it sometimes it also pays to back off the timing a smidge. Depending on the cam. Nigel |

i advanced my timing, running really well because of it too. but id say its running lean after you changed the intake.

a lot of people add a rubber flap on the intake.
when it blows, it just releases air. Saves plastic entering the chamber.

I replaced leads with wire wound type... almost no more backfires.
Also fitted el intake since the ef was cracked in 3 places. I now pitched the BRC converter and fitted an old OMVL, did a basic tune as till it idled nice and it has run great ever since and no more backfires. starts first go too.

Don't use a hose clip on the flexible trunking before the airbox, fit is reasonably tight without a hose clip, if it backfires it will only pop the hose off, no damage. push on again, drive on. Smart move on any car with an airbox.
PIC On an impco inlet don't clamp on junction indicated in pic, similar position on El etc plastic trunking. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. Last edited by splatt on Fri Sep 05, 2008 11:50 am, edited 1 time in total. |

there is reason as to why you are blowing up the intake ducts.
Find the reason & the backfiring will stop... 99% Of the time its the Leads, Spark Plugs or your leaking in air from the ducts (Usually the tube that comes out of the filter box - this tube tends to crack at the seems). Also change your duct system to an EL Ford type. They are much better & rarely crack. |
