I'd find the thread on engine swaps and read the issues with swapping AU engines to EL's. It'll tell you all the differences in size/mounts etc.

Also.. why?

no.

This is the easy answer, based on the fact that you can't fit an older motor to a newer car leagally. Unless you know somone who will do dodgy pink slips you wontget it passed for rego. You are supposed to get a blue slip to register the new engine number as well, and while being morons the rta aren't completely stupid.

phisically it can be done aslong as you use all the parts from the au engine (sensors, manifold ect)

but why would you remove a au engine to put a el one??
build wise the au engine is a better ballanced and stronger engine..

I have a 351 in a 91 model ute. The only thing that is original is the body. Pay an engineer and its all sweet, as long as they aprove of cause. But I definitely agree with you that RTA are morons.

It's the LPG that makes the difference there. No need to pass emissions

Have any of you considered that maybe the OP AU engine has bit the dust, and the OP can source a known good EL engine at the right price for them in their circumstances?

So the answer is, yes it is possible, but their are legal implications.

Mind you, once the engine is in with an AU rocker cover, from above it would fool most observers - not that I recommend or endorse such a strategy - ahem.
