Howdy crew!

I'm picking up my BA gearbox on monday, the trouble is it's from a BA sedan with ABS meaning it does not have a provision in the extension housing for an output shaft speed sensor, even though the casting is there for it, it does not go through.

My questions are, can an EL extension housing with a sensor provision be used instead? Also, would the BA output shaft have the necessary mounting points to install the worm gear from an EL even though the BA shaft never had a worm gear installed from the beginning? I can't imagine Ford having two different output shafts for ABS and non-ABS BA's.

While i'm thinking about it, rumour has it that the BA output shafts are slightly shorter (by about 20mm or so), if this is true could this affect the rear housing seal at all, seeing as the EL shaft already protrudes 10-15mm or so outside the housing. If anyone can confirm this, that would be awesome.

Thanks for any help, it will greatly appreciated!

Cheers - Matt

After having a look on my BA workshop manual, it doesn't look like there is a worm drive isn't on the ABS gearboxes. I can see for sure that the 97LE doesn't have it. Looking at a diagram of the 93LE non ABS shows the gear itself is only held on the shaft with a grub screw.

I can't comment on the use of a E series housing though.

Thanks Banarcus, that give's me a bit of an idea on what to expect, hopefully it should all transfer over.

67RCE, not an option. I have already told the wrecker i would take the box and have paid it off, but if the extension housing swap doesn't work, i'll just have to have the speed signal tapped into the ABS. More stuffing around i know, but i've waited this long.

Correct, swap the extension housing and the gear, it clips onto the output shaft. It all fits perfect. BTW the output shaft is the same length as your EL.
