What size rear housing should i get on the new turbo ill be buying.
http://www.horsepowerinabox.com/HPIAB2/prod20.htm Should i get a .82 or a 1.06 people with these turbos, when do you get full boost by? my mate has his .82 on a VS commodore 3.8l and it spools exactly how i like it and it sounds crazy when its boosting, sounds like it could suck in small dogs. if i did get the .82 housing what would be the downside to having the 1.06, besides more lag. discuss. thanks |

with the .82 you'll have almost instant boost but it'll run out of go at 4250ish on a 1.06 will have more lag but will feel better coz the boost will feel like it hits harder and make more power up the top end.id go the 1.06
i have a .8 atm but have just brought a 1.15 to put on mine

Hey,
I have a .84 on mine, and it seems to be quite good. I believe you need a lot of exhaust to spin a 1.06 and higher, which is ok for a V8. As for running out of go at 4250 or whatever, the compressor has alot to do with that. If you're gonna go with the 1.06, then your manifold might let you down, depending on the design. Obviously the more air you push in the more air that comes out, so it depends if you want bulk HP or not, which is where compressor choice comes into play. Every car is different, and i am by no means an expert, but i have learnt some things over the past few months and i am happy with my choice of turbo. I may at some stage, change my manifold design. Cheers Daz

iv got the snort stage 3 tuned length manifold but every car is different so the choice is really do you want fast boost or big top end power

want quick boost, dont want to rev it alot on the streets, want to get moving quick without too much acceleration.
i hate making desicions like this mechanic said get the 1.06 because theyve put 1 on a xh ute and full boost was by 3000 -3500 but i think thats a bit too much waiting for me |

mine with the .8 can boost with no load (big safety rev though) it boosts when driving almost instantly,go the .8 if your not chasing a big power figure

Carefull with a too small A.R!! Can build too much heat and destroy CRA.. Over $1300 to repair..
Boost is not a an RPM thing its more of a time thing.. I bet it will spool alot better in higher gears and even quicker if auto.. If it was me 1.06 with good dump pipe / wastegate for flow.. The slightly bigger A.R gives you longer power band and better traction in lower rpm.. Its bad fuel economy driving on boost the whole time..
