I have always used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 fully synthetic in my XR8 and have never had any problems. Its the same oil used by Ferrari so it must be half decent :D

Good s**t, ur feedback has kinda raised my hopes again..
Now, ive just gotta hope that it IS on of the things u guys suggested, and nothing else! lol

The tappets are fine. Hardly even hear them, if at all. Its more of a knocking sound.

Yeah i think the timing might be out a little too. Ive never had tune up since ive had the car (6 months/8000 kms). Its a lil rough on idle now too.

So what would be the best oil for me to use? I dont care how much, just some good stuff. Also, what brand oil filter would i best use in conjuction with this oil?

Thanks fellas! ;)
penrite hpr 30 its done it for my eb for years

The ting with synthetic is that if you're engine hasn't been really using it from the start then don't. COntinue to use semi-syn.
